Our Physical Therapy department focuses on improving our patients’ functional mobility and strength while decreasing their pain, allowing them improved quality of life as they return to their home and work duties, and sports and recreational activities, with increased ease and decreased limitations. Many are referred to physical therapy in order to rehabilitate from major medical trauma or surgery, yet there is increasing evidence demonstrating physical therapy is often an equally effective, and less expensive, alternative to surgery and/or prescription drugs for many conditions ranging from back pain and degenerative disk disease to meniscal tears and knee osteoarthritis. Although laws regarding direct access to a PT differ from state to state, and insurance plans vary, anyone in the United States can seek a physical therapy screening without a physician’s referral. PTs work with their patients to develop individualized treatment plans, taking into account patients’ goals, challenges and needs. Working with a PT can be empowering as a patient is able to collaborate with the PT and be an active participant in his or her recovery.
Our Physical Therapy section offers ultrasound, whirlpool, mysofascial release, massage, electrical stimulation, re-education, traction, phonophoreses/iontophoresis, postural strengthening, back rehabilitation, neuro-rehabilitation, orthopedic rehabilitation, gait training, and individualized progressive exercise.
Our Speech Therapy team currently offers services focused on treating diagnoses for adult and geriatric patients relating to aphasia (expressive and receptive), cognitive-linguistic difficulties, and swallowing difficulties.
